Summary details of module content:
This is a counselling skills module which provides a basic understanding of the grief and bereavement processes and further develops a knowledge of in-depth counselling models, approaches and skills in grief and bereavement counselling. Emphasis is on using Worden’s Tasks of Mourning model integrated with Rogers’ core therapeutic conditions. The counselling skills approach is holistic, practical, comprehensive and builds on the student’s previous knowledge (Module: Foundation Counselling Skills or equivalent) of the counselling relationship and self-awareness.

Assessment strategy:
Assessment is knowledge based (Methodical Rationale Essay– 2500 words) and skills based (Case Study-Taped and Analysed)

Duration
This is a two semester module and is studied off campus by distance learning.

* The module is a SHE Level 3 module / SCQF Level 9 and is worth 30 credits. Academic accreditation of the module may be used towards the award of the GCU BSc/BSc (Hons.) Professional Development

**students must also undertake a mandatory research module at level 3
