The Diploma in Counselling and Spiritual Care is awarded by the Institute of Counselling. Each of the two modules within this diploma have been accredited independently with 20 points each at SCQF Level 8 (Second year BA/BSc level) by the University of the West of Scotland (UWS).

This course would benefit someone who wished to build some basic counselling skills with a particular interest in utilising the knowledge and skills in the area of Spiritual Care.

      In module 1 (counselling - course UW200) the students study and apply the psychodynamic, behavioural, person-centred and pastoral counselling models. They will also receive training in the counselling process, develop the core counselling qualities and skills, and apply the key skills of the Problem Management and Opportunity Development model – Egan. Developing a professional and ethical practice is at the heart of this course.

      Module 2 (spiritual care - course UW500) is designed to help students understand and apply their knowledge of the following topics: the rise and development of spirituality, models and methods of spiritual care, developing spiritual and pastoral care, spiritual religious and ethical issues, assessment methods of spirituality and the importance of maintaining a professional practice.

      Accredited or CPD
      Each of the modules in this course is accredited by the University of the West of Scotland at 20 Scot-Cats (Credit Accumulation Transfer Scheme) points at level 8 (2nd year BA/BSc). These points may be used towards gaining a degree in a similar topic.
