Dr Mark Biddiss – Coach, Mentor and Trainer

11th November 2024
Dr Mark Biddiss – Coach, Mentor and Trainer Thank you IoC! Your tutors were outstanding and your training has been pivotal in both our careers. We cannot recommend you all too highly.

Complementing my nearly 30 years in education training and teaching, and after I gained your diploma in Cognitive Coaching and Mentoring, my wife Nikki (who also completed the same course) and I used the 'credentials' to devise and deliver a 'Coaching and Mentoring for Teachers' training half-day and whole-day options for school teachers, complete with full teachers' notes. This was added to our range of teacher training options at the time.

I completed the three-part course with you in March 2014 and we delivered four such teacher training days before the end of the following October - and earned £2,200. Not a bad return on investment in the IoC courses so quickly. A quick glance at the teachers' evaluations showed that almost all gave the day an overall good/excellent rating. Our aim is to receive excellent evaluations for all our work.

In the following years Nikki and I have drawn extensively on our IoC training and credentials. I use it with ‘coaching and mentoring’ private clients, and to help me write two books on a cognitive-behavioural approach to weight-loss, the first called ‘Diet Tricks - Heavyweight Ways to Use Your Brain and Behaviour to Help You Lose Weight (and Keep It Lost!)’, and then ‘Why Losing Weight Is Hard To Do: Why You Eat The Way You Do (And What You Can Do About It)’. I am also drawing on it in an on-going research and writing project about ‘Magical Thinking’ and how we can use it to achieve things in life. My wife Nikki is a practicing Medical Herbalist and partner in the Glasgow shop-clinic ‘Napiers the Herbalists’, and she continues to draw on her IoC training in the counselling aspect of her work with clients.

So thank you IoC! Your tutors were outstanding and your training has been pivotal in both our careers. We cannot recommend you all too highly.

The course, if taken seriously as a basis for one's own study, was much better than I thought it would be. The saving grace of the entire course was the quality of the tutor! Dr Murphy was incredibly generous with her time and her academic advice. She turned this course into an extremely rigorous, interesting and enjoyable course. I am not sure that true empathy can be taught or explained and from what I have seen of the physical courses on offer at universities, this course offers a serious alternative for anyone who is self motivated and possess the ability to read people. By way of constructive criticism, the materials need to be reviewed and brought back into synergy and some explanations updated and expanded. I am incredibly grateful to Dr Murphy, Alan and Urska and wish them all the best for the future.

I have enjoyed this course very much, it has been challenging but rewarding and I would thoroughly recommend it! My tutor was very supportive and a great mentor to guide me through. The course content and materials were excellent, very informative and professional at this higher level. I would rate this course as excellent for anyone wishing to develop further their counselling and therapist skills.

I liked the structure of the course. The material was interessting and was presented very clear, and the set-up in the folder was inviting to learn. I liked that there were colourful graphics to enhance the learning experience. A great benefit is that each stutdent is assigned a personal tutor to help them through the coure. Marie Murphy was my personal tutor, she was very helpful and supportive with any questions and concerns I had. Her feedback on my written work was always encouraging and uplifting. She certainly has a great gift in tutoring and I am very grateful that Marie was assigned to me. The course content is clear and in depth. I got a good overview of CBT in general and about specific disorders and different methods used. What I was missing a little is that the content of the course material is still the same as fifteen years ago. I would have liked to see more of the newer approaches or new methods that have evolved and have enhanced CBT since then. But that is my personal preference. Over all it is a great course and I can really recommend it to others. A great benefit is that it is accredited by the ACCPH which is internationally recognised.

The course provided me with the introductory knowledge that I needed. The assignments were challenging but allowed me to demonstrate what I was learning and how I could apply it to client work. Marie Murphy was an excellent tutor and her feedback was encouraging and detailed.

I thoroughly enjoyed all aspects of this course, so much so that I want to continue on my counselling journey! I haven't done any learning for over 25 years and was very proud of achieving A's for all my assignments, it goes to show whatever age you are it's never too late to learn
