This Diploma course has two modules:
Module 1: Certificate in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CR100)
Module 2: Certificate in Addiction Counselling (SCQF credit rated) (CR350)
Module 1 will give you a solid foundation to build your addiction counselling studies on.
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) is based on the premise that our
interpretation of an event is crucial in determining how we feel and
react. Where beliefs and thought patterns are negative or unrealistic, a
variety of problems may occur leading to possible emotional disorders. CBT aims to alleviate emotional distress. CBT has proved to be very
effective in treating clients who have addiction issues.

The diploma course includes current research, lists of textbooks and

skills used in addiction counselling.

Linkages to other courses
Diploma in Addiction Counselling Course 3500 is non-credit rated and therefore although covering similar
issues does not have the same academic rigour to the on-going
assessment. It may be more suitable for a student who already has a

Credit Rated or CPD
The Certificate in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy module and the Certificate in Addiction Counselling are each independently credit rated by the SCQF. Each module carries 20 credit points at SCQF level 8 (2nd year BA/BSc). These credit points may be used towards gaining a degree in a similar topic.
