Yes, all very good. I would have liked a few examples of case studies where CBT was actually being applied - like an interview with the words of the person being counselled and the counsellor.

Syllabus for Certificate in Developing Skills in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy

CBT is a series of strategies specifically targeted at an individual’s disorder.

These can include:

  • cognitive therapy
  • relaxation
  • breathing techniques
  • interceptive exposure

People with specific issues such as panic attacks, depression, anxiety, anger, etc. are helped by teaching them to control their thought patterns instead of their thought patterns controlling them.

You are introduced to the ABC Model of counselling. This describes the interaction between the clients’ behaviours, feelings and thoughts.

You are also taught to identify errors in thinking and to challenge damaging beliefs your clients may have. The aim is to enhance your effectiveness as a counsellor by teaching you the skills and the techniques of CBT, through providing case studies, illustrations, practical activities and assignments.

The course material is presented in a great and easy to understand way. The colourful pictures and diagrams enhance the course material. The content of the material was interessting and keeps one engaged without it being overwhelming, it is a great mix. It is great to have a tutor assigned to a student where one can get help and support and ask questions. I appreciated my tutor`s feedback on my assignments. And I particularly appreciated the clarifications regarding the TMA and the word count for each different section, and help to clarify the referencing system.
