I am afraid that you are quite a way from being able to offer such a service with his course - it is too short and lacking in academic and professional rigour and of course does not have the essential element of supervised practice where theory can be turned into practice and evaluated by a competent practitioner.

This course would help you o your way but more would be required - certainly you would need to find a clinical placement to enable you to turn theory into practice.

If you are looking at the Glasgow Caledonian University course, then the academic point s are transferrable throughout the UK. Professional recognition is another matter and you should read our FAQs page for further information.

• Build up knowledge and understanding of counselling (the course you have chosen will help you with this, covering foundation counselling skills and the more speciailist area of grief and bereavement)
• Continued Professional Development through other courses which will help extend your knowledge and understanding - this may include topics such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy which will add to the differnt ways you may chose to assist clients with their problems.
• A practice element through voluntary work with a helping organisation where you develop competence by putting your knowledge and undestanding into practice
• Working towards membership of a professional organisation such as the National Couselling Society who are "licensed" to hold an accredited voluntary register of Counsellors. 

You should consider all of the above in tandam. In relation to our course this can start at any time as it is provide through Distance Learning.
